Licensure Exam Fee Change (Per NASW FL Website)
Beginning January 1, 2010, the cost for taking the LCSW exam will raise significantly. The Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) voted at their last meeting to increase the fees for the Advanced Clinical Exam, the one used in Florida, from $175 to a new rate of $260. This cost will apply for everyone registering to take the exam on or after January 1st. The vote was 36-16, with Florida’s delegation opposing the increase. Reasons cited for the rate change include increased administrative costs, including the costs necessary to ensure the continued validity of the exam, and implementing new security measures. The last rate change was in 2001, and there is expected to be a minimum of five years before any additional increases are considered.

The Social Work Registry provides a repository for social workers' credential information while serving as a verification source for social work licensing boards. This is a great resource for social workers who want to become licensed in various jurisdictions. The Registry lets you establish a permanent file containing primary source records important to your social work career. At your request, this information can be transmitted to any regulatory board to which you may apply for licensure. For more information go to www.aswb.org/registry

Office of Ethics and Professional Review(OEPR)
Ethics Consultation
As a service to members, the OEPR provides ethics consultations for current NASW members. Ethic consultations are a resource for members who are experiencing an ethical dilemma. We do not provide advice or tell members what to do. However, we do guide them through the Code and point them to the areas of the Code that address their concerns. We provide dialogue and considerations that allow members to make ethical decisions. We may also refer members to the appropriate areas if their questions do not appear to be related to ethics but are more related to legal issues or standards of practice.

Social Workers may have their educational debt forgiven . . .
The U.S. Department of Education has created a new call center for borrowers to obtain information about the College Cost Reduction Act of 2007 (H.R. 2669). The number for the Federal Student Aid Information Center is (800) 433-3243. The law forgives outstanding education debt for those persons that meet the eligibility requirements. Those that would benefit are employees that have made 120 monthly payments on their loans while serving full-time in social work in public child or family service agencies, government, nonprofit, military, education, and others areas. The loan forgiveness provisions became effective on October 1, 2007. It is important to note that payments made after October 1, 2007 on an existing loan can count towards the 120 payments if the loan meets certain criteria.
