National Network of mental health professionals are providing free mental health services to the U.S. Troops and families affected by the current military conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. Give an Hour is a nonprofit organization that has established a national network of mental health professionals in all 50 states, Washington, DC, Guam and Puerto Rico. Nearly 5,000 professionals have registered to participate in this critical effort. These licensed mental health professionals will give an hour of their time each week to provide free mental health services to military personnel and their families. In addition to providing direct counseling services, Give an Hour volunteers are working to educate the public and the military community and to reduce stigma so often associated with mental health. This organization was founded by Dr. Barbara Van Dahlen, a Washington, DC area psychologist. To locate a provider, simply visit www.giveanhour.org and use the zip code search.
