Progress on the Social Work Licensure Compact!

Recently, the Senate Committee met to consider a bill that would enter New Jersey into the Social Work Licensure Compact. This means social workers could practice across state borders without needing additional licenses, it would enhance the capacity of the social work profession in New Jersey by improving access to qualified professionals and help address workforce shortages.

Support the Social Work Interstate Licensure Compact

Earlier this year, Assembly Majority Leader Greenwald introduced legislation (A5349) that would enter New Jersey into the proposed Social Work Interstate Licensure Compact. In order to officially create the Compact, 7 states must approve legislation to enter the Compact. We're aiming for New Jersey to be one of the initial 7 states to launch the Compact. This is a perfect time for NJ social workers to echo our message by letting their Assemblymembers know that you need your elected officials to support this legislation and how important it is to you and your clients. Please click this link to reach out to your Assemblymembers now.

The Lifeline and 988 - National Suicide Prevention Lifeline

988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. While some areas may be currently able to connect to the Lifeline by dialing 988, this dialing code will be available to everyone across the United States starting on July 16, 2022.

Weekly Training to Bring Your Clinical Skills to the Next Level

New Revision to the DSM 5; What Social Workers Need to Know

After nine years, there is a new revision to the DSM 5, which is used by social workers and other mental health professionals to diagnose mental disorders. These new revisions, DSM-5-TR, have taken a stronger look at the impact of racism and Social Determinants of Health. For those in Johnson County reaching out for help on the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, they will now be speaking to local mental health professionals. This move by Johnson County Mental Health seeks to dive further into underlying issues and involve professionals that are knowledgable about the resources available locally.
