This full-day workshop will provide a valuable learning opportunity for mental health professionals seeking to enhance their skills in working with adolescents and their families. Discussion will include individual, family and group intervention approaches. Participants will gain key insights into therapeutic work with adolescents regarding issues related to body image and gender dysmorphia, impulsivity and risk-taking, substance use and addictions, and self-destructive behaviors and suicidality. The impact of social media, and the function and dysfunction of cliques and gangs will also be discussed. In addition, the presentation will address group treatment approaches, as well as issues related to working with parents, including the impact of parents’ own experiences of adolescence on their interactions with their child, and ways to address parents’ needs while preserving the teen’s confidentiality.
